Through Aus4Skills, Australia is working with Vietnam to improve capacity for trainers and management at Vietnamese VET colleges and enterprises. In our latest cooperation, 23 participants of the Australia Awards Short Course on Innovation Leadership Skill Sets completed their training at the final symposium on 19 and 20 July 2024, hosted by Ho Chi Minh City College of Transport. The course was co-organised and facilitated by Australia’s VET Development Centre and the Australian Institute of Management since September 2023.
During the course, focused on developing innovative mindset and leadership skills, participants learned valuable knowledge in critical thinking, engaging in creative processes, developing original concepts and establishing an innovative work environment in VET and beyond.
Ms Jessica Houston, Executive Director of Australian Institute of Management, leads the discussion on the application of leadership skills and innovation in VET.
With this knowledge base, participants developed and implemented application projects, focusing on innovative but practical solutions that have been effectively applied in their respective organisations, such as the “Transfer of Warehouse Management Systems from enterprises to VET colleges” , “Continuous improvement strategies at colleges” and “Development of career pathway mobile application for VET students.”

The symposium also highlighted the application of emergent technologies in general education and in VET, among which artificial intelligence (AI) is a new and highly interested topic among VET leaders. How to best utilise AI in education was also the topic of a panel discussion chaired by Mr Martin Powell, Chief Executive Officer – VET Development Centre, taking into consideration the challenges, approaches and potential of AI application in education and VET in Vietnam.
Mr Andrew Douch, Microsoft Global Innovative Teacher of the year demonstrates how simple technologies can have extraordinary impact on students’ learnings.
Dr Kim Manh Tuan, Faculty of Education Management, University of Education – Vietnam National University, presented the challenges of disruptive technology applications in Vietnam.

The Australia Awards Short Course on Innovation Leadership Skill Sets in VET supports the Australia for ASEAN Digital Transformation and Future Skills Initiative to respond to rapid digitalisation and support for long-term economic development. This course is organised under Aus4Skills’ Vocational Education and Training component in 2023 – 2024.
