“The cell phone rang at midnight, right after I selected the Accept button, there was the hurried voice of a female student on the other end: Please, please save me, I am trapped by my in-laws…” – Dr. Le Thi Ngan, Head of Faculty of Law and Society Management, Thai Nguyen University – University of Science, recalled one of many special calls she received from students at midnight.

GIn just 10 months, including 6 weeks study in Australia and training sessions in Vietnam under an Australia Awards Short Course, Women in Leadership Journey, Dr. Bui Thi Huong Giang, Vice Director, Department of International Cooperation, and Vice President, Centre for Human Resources Development for Foreign Language Studies, Thai Nguyen University launched a project to build a network for female leaders among universities in the northern provinces of Vietnam.

“Curriculum Development and Renewal requires the agreement and consensus from university’s members. Upon the course completion, I proposed plans comprising rapid curriculum renewal activities, but it was impossible to execute. After that, I slightly reduced the implementation pace. Therefore, it is equally important to be persevering in leadership as well as sometimes to be flexible in practice.” said Associate Professor, Doctor Do Anh Tai.

"I have not encountered any difficulty in implementing my application project. My colleagues at the faculty are young and open-minded, they are willing to embrace new changes which benefit students. In addition, other colleagues at different faculties also joined courses provided by Aus4Skills and learned experiences from Australian experts. As a result, they fully supported and facilitated curriculum renewal in our university. When leaders’ vision towards reform, everything will be conducted smoothly.” said Nguyen Thi Thu Thuy, Vice Dean of Foreign Languages Faculty, Tay Bac University.

Aus4Skills will continue to deliver tailored short-term training to support academic staff and lecturers from universities in the northern mountainous region and inspire course participants as champions in the educational reforms in Vietnam.
