In his visit to Tay Bac University (Son La province) under an Australia Awards Short Course on “Undergraduate Curriculum Development and Renewal”, Dr. Shaun Nykvist was affectionately called by participants as Mr. Son La – which is their province’s name. This name clearly shows their intimate, friendly relationship.

“As a participant of the course, I identified limitations in university governance and management. Through the course activities and discussions with the USC’s experts, we have developed proposals whose feasibility depends on the efforts of each university and the Vietnamese education system. Leaders of the educational sector assert clearly that the core of tertiary education reform is university autonomy and improved university governance. Accordingly, Aus4Skills Program’s course is very helpful, a basis for accelerating higher education reform process in Vietnam.” said Prof. Dr. Dang Van Minh, Vice Rector, Thai Nguyen University

The Aus4Skills program organizes courses for improving quality and quantity of education and research, as well as capacity of Thai Nguyen University, Thai Nguyen University of Agriculture and Forestry – a subsidiary university of Thai Nguyen University, and Tay Bac University, contributing to sustainable development of the Northwest mountainous region, and establishing cooperation programs with Australian universities.
