Education & Times – On July 31, Thai Nguyen University of Education opened a training course on effective university administration and management in the context of university autonomy for 30 leaders and managers of the university.

The training course was attended Ms. Tami Hariott, Director of the Center for International Development, Startup and Social Leadership, representative of Sunshine Coast University. Attendants from the Thai Nguyen University of Education included members of the Standing Committee of the Party Committee, the Executive Board, the University Council, and 30 leaders and managers, including six from an Ethnic Minority background.
The four-day training course which takes place on July 31 – August 3 and September 26-27, is part of the “Improving university governance and management capacity for leaders and managers of Thai Nguyen University of Education” project funded by the Australian Government through the Australian Alumni Grants Fund (AAGF).
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Bui Duc Nguyen, Vice Rector of Thai Nguyen University of Education stated: “Improving the governance and management capacity of leaders and managers of the University is very necessary in the implementation of the new Law on Higher Education and on the way towards autonomy.
This is one of the important tasks that our leadership has identified in the Work Plan of the Party Committee for the academic year 2020-2021. We would like to thank the Australian Alumni Grants Fund and the University of Sunshine Coast for sponsoring and supporting us in improving the capacity of our lecturers and staff.”

Prof. Dr. Ha Thi Thu Thuy, Director of the Institute of Social Sciences and Humanities in the Mountainous Region under the Thai Nguyen University of Education, who is a Tay Ethnic participant shared: “I feel very fortunate to have participated in this training course. This is an opportunity for Ethnic Minority members like me to learn from international experiences, especially from Australia’s experience in higher education governance and management.
Upon completion of this course, I will apply the knowledge and skills learned to participate in the development of the University’s strategic plan for the period of 2021-2025. I will continue my research and community work to serve the community, especially to support the Ethnic Minority communities in a sustainable and inclusive way.”
The training course is focused on the introduction of international and Australian experience in university governance and management in the context of autonomy; advising leaders and managers on the development of strategy for the university development for the period of 2021-2025.
After the training, the participants will engage in the development of University’s strategic planning for the period 2021-2025, and will recommend change and improvement to the Thai Nguyen University of Education.
This AAGF-funded project will promote development cooperation with Australian universities, thereby creating a university governance model for the Thai Nguyen University of Education on its way towards autonomy. It will also contribute to the development of Thai Nguyen University of Education into one of leading pedagogical institutions in Vietnam in the future.
